About Ms. Aranda

My Story

I grew up in southwestern (rural) Michigan, where I  attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo to become a special education teacher. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education in 2007, and my Master of Arts degree in Literacy Studies in 2011. In Michigan, I taught for 6 years in a variety of settings, but primarily middle school.  I moved to North Carolina in 2013, where I continued to teach middle school. In 2015, I decided it was time to try high school teaching. I love it! I don't think I will ever move from high school! This is my 11th year of teaching.

Teaching is a personal passion for me. My brother was involved in a car accident at the age of 15 in 1993. This car accident affected my entire family. My brother was in a coma, on life support, and no one thought he'd live. He ended up proving everyone wrong and as he came out of his coma, he learned to do everyday functional skills again. He sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury as a result of his accident, and it became a challenge for him to remember everyday tasks. The transition wasn't easy, but his teacher was one who ensured he felt a part of school again.

Because of what I saw my family endure as a result of my brother's disability, I wanted to make it my lifelong goal to help others with disabilities; and to teach anyone about acceptance and accommodations. I continue to live by this.

For the parents of students I teach; and my students, please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or suggestions. I look forward to meeting all of you!
